It’s an exciting and surprising time in the world of theme parks, which typically starts the new year at a slow pace. Instead, both Universal and Disney just keep announcing major changes. Disney has been consistently making updates ever since Bob Iger returned as CEO. Many were probably already in the works, but the pace has quickened. Universal has gone even bigger and announced two new regional destinations in Las Vegas and near Dallas, Texas.
Tim Grassey is the perfect guest to dive into the latest theme park news. He’s a co-host of the Marty Called podcast and stays on top of what’s happening at the parks. Tim returns on this episode of the Tomorrow Society Podcast to talk about all the changes. We also give our assessments of EPCOT as its transformation winds down this year. There are some good and not great aspects of Disney’s approach.
We also talk about Tim’s recent trip where he experienced both Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and the VelociCoaster at Islands of Adventure. Tim gives his first impressions of both coasters including how Cosmic Rewind fits in EPCOT. We close the episode with a fun speed round where I try to nail down which coaster Tim prefers. I also ask him about TRON’s opening at the Magic Kingdom, the upcoming Marvel E-Ticket attraction featuring King Thanos in Disney California Adventure, and more.
