An underreported theme park story is the activity happening at Universal Orlando. Limited excitement for the Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction has pushed Universal to the background as Disney opens Toy Story Land. The attention on Disney’s new area makes sense; it’s their first significant expansion at Walt Disney World since Pandora. Most eyes now turn to Galaxy’s Edge in 2019, which should be incredible. Meanwhile, Universal is quietly purchasing land, building a new Harry Potter attraction, and planning a new theme park. We’re on the precipice of an escalated theme park war, and I can’t wait to see what happens.
We need a Universal expert to understand what’s happening, so it’s the perfect time to speak with Seth Kubersky. He blogs regularly about Orlando parks and is the author of the Unofficial Guide to Universal Orlando. Seth appeared on Episode 5 of The Tomorrow Society Podcast, and it’s great to have him back for this episode. Our conversation dives into the latest Universal news and what we might see in the next few years. We also spend a little time on Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland plus Seth’s recent visit to Toy Story Land.
During this fun podcast, Seth and I tackle the following topics (plus a lot more):
- When will we see a brand new theme park at Universal Orlando?
- How will Universal handle the transportation challenges with a more expansive resort?
- What should we expect with the Forbidden Forest coaster when it opens next year?
- How chaotic will Disneyland be next summer after Galaxy’s Edge opens?
- What did Seth think about Toy Story Land and the Slinky Dog Coaster?
