When Disney first announced The Mandalorian series for Disney Plus, I wondered if it would capture the magic of Star Wars. Could this smaller frontier story connect with audiences? Obviously, those concerns were unwarranted, and the show has become a cultural phenomenon. Season two concluded in December and expanded the show’s world effectively. I’m excited to delve into this season and all its highs and lows. The perfect guest for this pursuit is Brian Jay Jones, author of George Lucas: A Life.
Brian is my guest on this episode of The Tomorrow Society Podcast to dive into The Mandalorian. This spoiler-filled discussion includes both a broader look at the series and thoughts about each season two episode. This is Brian’s third appearance on this podcast, and I really enjoyed the chance for a deep dive into this new show. We talk about the appearance of familiar faces from the original trilogy and prequels and how they fit within this universe. Brian has a lot to say about Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), who plays a key role in this season.
Disney recently announced a big expansion to their Star Wars shows on their streaming service. Brian and I also discuss what we think about upcoming Disney Plus series focused on Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cas Andor, Ahsoka, and more. It feels like The Mandalorian is the starting point of plans for the franchise in the upcoming years. It was great to talk to Brian again about this entertaining series and a lot more.
