If you’re immersed in Star Wars, Marvel, or many other fandoms, you’re likely familiar with Amy Ratcliffe. She’s written so many great books about these universes from a wide range of perspectives. There is far too much to cover in a single interview! Amy joins me on this episode of the Tomorrow Society Podcast to talk about her background and excellent writing. We focus on Star Wars and also discuss what’s currently happening with recent films and TV series in that beloved franchise.
Amy’s work includes The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which should be a must-read for both theme park and Star Wars fans. This official Disney publication includes amazing concept art for Galaxy’s Edge, including some ideas that didn’t come to fruition. Amy and I talk about how she got involved in writing this book and what it was like to work with Imagineers on it. We also discuss what it was like for Amy to visit the Galactic Starcruiser, which has concepts in the book.
We also talk about Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy, the incredible book spotlighting 75 women from Star Wars movies, games, and more. Amy wrote a fictional story in From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back and describes that experience. Beyond Star Wars, Amy also explains the gargantuan challenge of The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline. She wrote that book along with Anthony Breznican and Rebecca Theodore-Vachon, and it’s quite detailed. Finally, we discuss Amy’s upcoming book Thrill Ride, a rom-com set in a small-town theme park. I really enjoyed the chance to chat with Amy and cover so much of her awesome writing.
