Walt Disney is renowned for his movies and theme parks, but there is a limited supply of strong films about him. The PBS documentary Walt Disney was good but tried to tackle so much. A more singular approach helps Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow: The Futurism of Walt Disney work better. This documentary focuses on Walt’s achievements with technology and succeeds by sticking to that topic. Experts like Bob Gurr, Sam Gennawey, and Rolly Crump provide intriguing details about Walt and Disney’s past. Director Christian Moran returns to The Tomorrow Society Podcast in my latest episode to talk about his new film.

We spoke about Christian’s companion book in September but only briefly touched on the movie during that conversation. This time, our chat focuses on Christian’s process in tackling Walt’s extensive history. We also discuss the film’s style, the perception of Walt among fans and the public, and an enticing alternate timeline with EPCOT the city. I loved this excellent documentary and enjoyed talking with Christian about it. His future projects on Disney and other subjects also look interesting.
