There’s so much discussion about how to make the most of your Walt Disney World vacation. The amount of planning that’s needed months before the trip is higher than ever. While preparing for our recent vacation in March, I was nervous about handling the Spring Break crowds. We normally visit in January but shifted the time of year now that my daughters are older. For the most part, those fears were unfounded. However, the crowded days require that you make the right touring choices. We had a great time on our vacation, but there were a few unfortunate moves that I’d like to try again.
This episode of The Tomorrow Society Podcast includes five rookie mistakes that I made before and during this trip. The issues were minor, but a Disney World fan’s mind is obsessive. I discuss seven highlights from our trip, including Rivers of Light at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. That show was one of my favorite moments, which might surprise you based on the lukewarm reaction from many fans. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for six nights and had another great experience at the beautiful resort. This trip report also covers why that resort works so well.
I also discuss my latest experience with FastPass Plus and the MagicBands, the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, and my first time using Memory Maker. There was plenty to cover from our five days in the parks, including a brief trip to the condensed version of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I’m already thinking about my next visit to check out Pandora.

This was a great trip recap, thanks for posting! Your “mistakes” and food recommendations gave me a lot to think about while I’m planning my next trip. Your comment about DHS was really interesting! I hadn’t thought about it as much, but when I went with my (> 65 yo) parents last Thanksgiving, we really used the park as “filler” instead of a full park like you talked about. Each parent had 1-2 rides they *had* to do, so I went with my Mom one afternoon (Muppets and GMR) and my Dad a different afternoon (Tower of Terror and a walk around). Both visits were only a few hours long. Obviously very different than touring with children but ended up working out pretty great. Would definitely recommend doing DHS this way to others for the foreseeable future.
Keep up the great work with the podcast!

Thanks Lizzie! I really appreciate the comment. I agree that doing DHS for a short period of time is the way to go. With my kids’ ages (8 and 4), I feel like it wasn’t the best use of our time. They did enjoy doing Toy Story Mania, and my older daughter loved Star Tours, so it was hardly a waste. It was more about just picking the best option. Still, I’m mostly nitpicking at this point. The trip worked out well overall. Thanks again!
