Despite being an avid theme park fan, I rarely visit the parks on my own. This is especially true of Six Flags St. Louis, my local amusement park. Situated just a half-hour drive away from my house, it provides a convenient way to experience a few thrills on a day trip. That proximity makes it easier for me to forgive some of the park’s shortcomings, at least up to a point. Six Flags St. Louis has gone way downhill since my visits as a teenager back in the ‘90s. It needs a lot of upgrades to warrant more than a quick summer trip every once in a while.
For Episode 50 of The Tomorrow Society Podcast, I recorded my thoughts about Six Flags St. Louis during a recent visit. Using my trusty iPhone, I documented my reactions immediately following the rides. You’ll hear the ambient sounds of the park behind me while I talk about the highlights and challenges in this evening trip. I just visited the parks for a few hours but was able to do quite a lot given the sparse crowds.
At the end of the podcast, I sum up my thoughts about the park and my particular visit. It was a different experience visiting Six Flags St. Louis without my daughter. I focused on the rollercoasters and thrill rides, which reminded me that perhaps my body can only take so many inversions and big drops. This episode differs from the typical interview format of the podcast, and it was a lot of fun to record. I’ll return next Monday with another interview show.
