It’s been a challenging year for Disney. Attendance is slipping, and attractions haven’t always opened smoothly. They’re still delivering a great experience, but it’s a new world. Universal continues to grab market share thanks to Harry Potter and rapid expansion. For the latest episode of The Tomorrow Society Podcast, Chad Emerson returns to discuss the current landscape and its future. He’s the author of Project Future: The Inside Story Behind the Creation of Disney World and writes the Large Park News column for Tourist Attractions & Parks magazine. Chad knows the industry and has great insights about what’s happening.
Our conversation includes a look at how Comcast is pushing Disney to act. Disney still has its incredible legacy, but they can’t run on autopilot. Chad and I discuss the Pandora expansion at the Animal Kingdom and the potential for Star Wars to draw crowds to the Studios. We also cover ways Disney can improve EPCOT’s Future World. Disney Springs is another big change, and results have been mixed. Chad does a great job summarizing the issues, and we also have fun with blue-sky ideas on The Magic Kingdom.
