It’s a fascinating time for Disney’s theme parks, especially Walt Disney World. They are seeing unprecedented attendance at The Magic Kingdom this fall and are prepping several major expansions. Can Disney keep up with the capacity demands of being the world’s most popular resort? For the latest episode of The Tomorrow Society Podcast, I spoke with Chad Emerson about what’s on the horizon for Disney. We discussed the potential for Star Wars lands at all four parks, which would dramatically change how the resort functions. The Hollywood Studios expansion is up first, but that could just be the beginning for the franchise in Orlando.
Chad is the author of Project Future: The Inside Story Behind the Creation of Disney World and editor of Four Decades of Magic: Celebrating the First Forty Years of Disney World. He writes the Large Park News column for Tourist Attractions & Parks magazine, which gives him an insider’s perspective on the industry. We also discussed Universal’s growth and how they’re maximizing every square foot of their property. Disney has been raising prices to improve their bottom line, but there’s a risk of alienating longtime fans. Chad gives plenty of insights on what Disney is trying to accomplish with their latest moves.
