I’m continuing my look back at some past favorite episodes of The Tomorrow Society Podcast today. I really enjoyed the chance to talk with composer Paul Leonard-Morgan back in June of 2018. He composed the score for the current version of Test Track at EPCOT in Walt Disney World, and we talked all about that creative process.
Paul is an accomplished artist with a diverse career in films and TV. Beyond Test Track, his work includes scores for Dredd and Limitless plus TV series like MI-5, Wormwood, and the reboot of Dynasty. Paul is from Glasgow, Scotland and was active in the thriving music scene there alongside artists like Belle and Sebastian, Snow Patrol, and Isobel Campbell.
This conversation focuses largely on creating the music for Test Track for the re-imagined version, which opened in 2012. During the interview, we discuss the challenges writing music for such a large show building with multiple rooms. Paul describes the differences writing for such a massive attraction versus working on a TV show or movie. He shares some great stories from his time working with Disney. We also cover Paul’s work composing the music for the Tron Realm post-show in Shanghai Disneyland.
I really enjoyed the chance to talk with Paul in 2018; he was one of the first guests I spoke with that had worked behind the scenes at Walt Disney World. He provided a lot of great stories from the updates to Test Track in 2012, especially in terms of the music.
